Sprout E-course

The Sprout E-course is designed to give young leaders worldwide access to training in essential skills, including team building, project management, communications and leveraging technology as they imagine, plan and develop social innovation projects.

Since 2008, over 400 emerging social innovators from 71 countries have participated in the Sprout e-course. We offer this e-course to any young person with internet access and a brilliant world-changing idea.

2012 E-course Cycles

Curriculum

The Sprout E-course is a 9-week e-course including 1 orientation week, 6 weeks of lessons and quizzes, and 2 weeks of independent work. The curriculum is structured into four modules as follows: design, plan, connect and assess. Each module requires participants to complete one lesson and at the end of each module, participants will complete a quiz and self-assessment to progress to the next module. Module lessons cover everything from articulating the issues your project aims to address to developing your project mandate, action plan, team structure and funding ecosystem.

Offerings

As a Sprout participant you will receive:

• Access to a practical and engaging online learning community of inspiring and motivated changemakers
• Friendly and effective technical support
• Online training prior to the start of the e-course
• Six weeks of collaborative online learning
• One professional development webinar
• An amazing and innovative educational experience
• A Certificate of Completion for successful completion of the course

Fee

The global issues that our participants are solving are not short-term challenges. We are committed to ensuring that the Sprout e-course program is able to provide meaningful and accessible online learning experiences. In order to keep Sprout alive, we charge a fee of $50 CDN per participant to cover 15% of the costs of running the program.

Note:  We do not offer scholarships because we already subsidize 85% of each participant's e-course tuition.

Refund Policy

Pre-payment is required for all Sprout E-course sessions. Due to prohibitive cost, we are unable to refund Sprout E-course registration fees.

We are committed to ensuring each participant leaves Sprout having had a positive experience. If you are unable to participate in the e-course for the session you registered, we will credit the paid registration fee to a future Sprout E-course session of your choice. 

Financing Strategies

The true cost of administering the e-course is approximately $750CDN per participant. Sprout provides a low fee e-course cost to participants thanks to the generous support of Pearson Foundation. We are not able to offer scholarships. However, we have identified some strategies for those who cannot afford the $50CDN fee.

• Contact a local company with a social conscience that may be willing to sponsor your participation in the course.

• Get in touch with a local organization that might find value in the initiative you will develop through the Sprout E-course. Offer to volunteer the skills and knowledge you will acquire in exchange for the organization covering the cost of the course. Not sure where to begin? • Tell your friends, family and mentors that you are interested in taking the Sprout E-course and ask for contributions toward covering the cost. There is no greater gift than education and the Sprout E-course is one world-changing gift.
